Hush Puppies For 8...Source:  Jim Mixson

1 3/4 C corn meal
1/4   C flour
1/2   t baking soda
1/2   t salt
1 3/4 t sugar (more to taste,depending on onion strength)
1/3   C milk
1 1/3 T lemon juice
1/4   C water
1/4   t black pepper
1/3   C pureed onion
dash  white pepper
2     eggs

1.  Combine all dry ingredients; mix well.
2.  Combine all other ingredients and add to dry mixture.
3.  Mix all well.
4.  Add water/flour/corn meal to adjust consistency to a paste.
5.  Deep fry in oil between 350 and 400 degrees F.
6.  Use a slightly heaping teaspoon to drop the batter into the oil. 
    (15-18 puppies per cup of batter)
7.  Enjoy hot when golden brown.
