Marriage/birth notes: The records are confusing as to when the various marriages of John Samuel occurred and as to which child belongs to which wife. For example, some show the first marriage to have been in 1857. However, there are numerous children with birth dates beginning in the 1830's. Given this and the fact he was 20 years old at the recorded date of the first birth (1831) with one undated birth prior to that, one must presume his first marriage was likely around 1830, not 1857. With this in mind, all children whose birth dates show between 1830 and 1863 are attributed to the 1st wife.
