The 2005 Hilltown Woods Fall Fling was held 15 October 2005, again hosted by the O'Malley and Mixson families. By all accounts, this was perhaps the best yet...and this one was number seven (if you're counting!). Mother Nature presented us with a beautiful day after almost two weeks of heavy rains. (We did have to scatter some straw to soak up some wet spots.) Activity started early, as usual, with preparations beginning at 5:30 AM and the brunswick stew cooking by about 6. We started Porky a tad later this year; he/she was on the cooker at 7:15 AM. A few people were in and out through the day. Many enjoying the brunswick stew by mid to late morning. A super big hit this year was the inflatable climbing wall. It was intended for the younger kids, but, I saw quite a few "kids" on it who did not appear very young to me!!! Maybe some parents were "testing" it for their youngsters? More likely, they were reverting to a second childhood! I saw only younger kids on the "bouncy bounce" though! We welcomed a number of new neighbors this year...and a number of children of older neighbors who have grown up and moved away. Or, in some cases, just grown up. The bon fire was started in the early evening and burned into the night as a few of us enjoyed the comradery (and imbibed a few drinks as well). As usual, many many (old and young!) kids enjoyed the yearly hayrides. There were quite a few "turns around the block" taken. We're looking forward to next year's event. Tentatively it'll be October 14th. (That presumes the Cape May soccer tournament is the prior weekend.) Make sure you hold that date for another smash event. jim |
