I'm reminded of the Tobias Anderson homestead which was located across the "main" road from the lane going to Plantation. Tobias and Frances (Belew) Anderson were the parents of my Uncle Andrew and of Aunt Rosalie, Morris' mother. It gets much more convoluted...but that's for another day. Todays story is about Uncle Andrew and Mule. Some background. In Micanopy (still there today (2008)) is Franklin Crate and Basket Company. Way back when, they had a steam whistle which (I understand) they blew 3 times a day...8 AM, Noon and 5 PM. Uncle Andrew tells of plowing their fields with their mule. A pretty smart mule, evidently. Said mule recognized the mills whistles. Uncle Andrew said that no matter where he was in the fields plowing when the mule heard the Noon and 5 PM whistle it headed for the barn. Break time!! There is another Franklin Crate and Basket Company story which I now relagate to its own writing. It involves my experience of some years ago when I had the (dis)pleasure of spending a little over two months living in New York City. See "Memories of Franklin Crate & Basket Company In NYC". |
