Bihue (1883-1967)& Beulah Viola (1885-1956) (née Rutledge) Goodman

As a youngster, in summertime, I always looked forward to spending some summer vacation time with them at their house near Lakeland in Polk County. (make that “Imperial” Polk County for those “in the know”!) Memories of their place that stand out include their sandy yard (kept swept clean by Grandama) and the guava and banana and other trees and plants out back (was that near the outhouse?!) Often times they would drive up to our home (near Micanopy) and take my brother and me back with them. About a two hour drive today. Goodness knows how long it took “back then” puttering along (before interstate highways) in that big black car of theirs! (Well, it seemed huge to us!) Probably took much longer than it should. Every now and then Grandma would yell out “Papa, you’re going near 50 miles!”)
