ORANGEBURG - Mr. Charles K. Smoak Sr., 89, of Orangeburg, died Sunday, March 25, 2012. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012, in the Thompson Funeral Home chapel in Orangeburg, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg. The Rev. James Preveaux will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg is in charge. Pallbearers will be Billy Baker, Julian Cumbee, Wes Gray, David Hutson, Mike Myers and Steve Myers. Mr. Smoak, husband of the late Ellen M. Smoak, was born January 18, 1923, in Fairfield, Florida, the only son of the late Annie Lucretia Mixson and John Charley Smoak. He wanted to be remembered for being a good, faithful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He also wanted to be remembered for being a Christian and loving God. He served in WW II on the USS Thomas De-102. In 1986, he retired from Carolina Eastman. Survivors include a son, Charles K. Smoak Jr. (Rhonda Lanier Smoak) of Columbia; three grandchildren, Charles K. Smoak III (Katie Morgan Smoak), Brian David Smoak (Brook Eddings Smoak) of Columbia, and Anna Smoak Morella (Jacob Daniel Morella) of Florence; five great-grandchildren, Charles K. Smoak IV, Emily Elizabeth Smoak, Jacob Michael Smoak, Benjamin David Smoak and Luke Thomas Smoak, all of Columbia. Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Smoak to the church of your choice.
