The 1880 FL census shows a "Charles B. Mixon", born 1842 in SC (with both mother and father born in SC), living in "Precinct 3, Marion County, FL". Said Charles had a daughter "Sallie" listed as being born in 1872. Some other records show a "Sally". Now, given the flakiness of records, this information is pretty darn close to the known information we have. Examples: Mixon vs Mixson...a no brainer Sally vs Sallie...a no brainer (The headstone in Micanopy shows "Sallie".) Charles born 1842 vs 1846...given record keeping, very probably 1846 is correct. The headstone shows 1846 Sally born 1872 vs 1873...same probability. (The headstone in Micanopy shows 1873.) If one accepts the premise these are the same people, then Sallie Gertrude Mixson is a niece of James Darlington Mixson. Additional family input tells that Charles Benjamin Mixson was blind and wheel chair bound in his later years. He then resided with his brother, the aforementioned James Darlington Mixson. The house was two story at the time and Charles had to be carried up/down the stairs to/from his bedroom. |
