Allen Eugene Smoak, 78, passed away Sunday evening, May 12, 2013 after a lengthy illness with Sarcoma Cancer. Born in Sparr, Florida, he was a son of the late Clifton and Edna S. Smoak. Allen’s family moved to Greenville, SC due to his father’s employment at Greenville Army Air Force Base. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1953. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service with 32 year’s service. He served actively in the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and truly enjoyed serving the public. Allen was a faithful member of Mount Airy Baptist Church and served on numerous projects and mission trips. He enjoyed his time with the Young at Heart Group. He was a member of the Saluda Valley Country Club. Allen was a board member of the Christian Learning Centers of the Upstate, the project most dear to his heart. CLC helps public school students attend regular Bible Study groups off campus. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Beverly Lupo Smoak and their two daughters, Karen (Sam) Kirkland and Sharon (David) Lingerfelt; his grandchildren; Jason (Lisa) Kirkland, Kathryn Kirkland and Jordan, Kristin and Aaron Lingerfelt. He also had two "adopted" grandchildren, Ashley and Maria Vaughn; his sisters, Zora (Brad) Carver and Martha Sue Vess; and sisters-in-law, Bobbie Smoak, Joyce Smoak and Kathleen Smoak. He was predeceased by his brothers, Elmer, Alfred and Floyd Smoak and a sister, Adelaide Fleming. Services will be at 1:30pm, Saturday, May 18 at Mount Airy Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Keith Shorter officiating. Interment to follow at Woodlawn. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:15pm at the church.
